I could not help but picture the SNL skit when my therapist first had me recite aloud several positive mantras and then told me to go home and say them. So, I laughed. But I also spoke the words…and they made a difference. They continue to make a difference.
The words can vary, the situations can vary, but I find myself reciting mantras pretty regularly now.
- I am now.
- I welcome myself as I am.
- I embrace myself as I am.
- I am.
- I embrace.
- I am in control.
- I am in charge.
- I am healthy.
- I welcome you into my heart.
- I welcome you, fear, in to my heart. You, fear, do not control me. I am in control.
- I welcome you, farts, poops, and quivering feelings.
- I welcome you, stranger, into my heart.
- I welcome release.
- I make my own choices.
- This is my life. I make the choices about my life.
- I welcome the unknown into my heart.
- I embrace, “I don’t know.”
- Release, Embrace, Balance. Release, Embrace, Balance. Release, Embrace, Balance.
- It is my birthright to watch my child grow into adulthood, and watch her children grow into their adulthood.
